Help Save Lives by Registering for OneMatch Canada

Today I received a helpful email from Canadian Blood Services, reminding me to keep my contact information updated for OneMatch Canada, which prompted me again how important their services are.

I first signed up as a donor a few years ago after doing my rotation on hematology, where I learned that majority of registered donors in North America are from Caucasian backgrounds. As a result, many leukemia patients who are of different ethnicities end up dying from their cancer, due to lack of a matching stem cell donor. Unfortunately leukemia can affect patients of ANY age, including children, and many of these cancer patients I met were in the prime of their lives.

The process to sign up to be a donor was extremely simple, and if you are notified to be a match, you will become a cancer patient’s best chance of survival.

Here is more information on the process for signing up for OneMatch, I hope you will consider signing up today! https://blood.ca/en/stem-cell/onematch-information-new-registrants
